In 1984, this small Balkan city welcomed the world for the XIV Winter Olympic Games, becoming the first communist country to host a Winter Olympics. The games were a triumph, and Sarajevo has never forgotten them. This half-day tour takes you through what remains of that era, from the city venues to the mountains where the competitions took place. In the city, you'll visit Zetra Olympic Hall, where ice hockey and figure skating were held and several world records were broken. Zetra is where Torvill and Dean performed their legendary Bolero routine, still considered one of the greatest moments in Olympic history. The hall was destroyed during the war and rebuilt, and stands today as proof of the city's resilience. You'll also stop at the Olympic Village in Mojmilo to meet Vučko, the wolf mascot that charmed the world in 1984 and became one of the most beloved mascots in Olympic history. Then the tour heads into the mountains. Bjelašnica hosted the alpine skiing events and still offers cable car rides and sweeping views over the Dinaric Alps. After that we continue to Igman, where the original ski jump towers still stand quietly in the forest, a reminder of what once happened here. The day ends on Trebević Mountain, home of the bobsleigh and luge track. The concrete track is still there, now covered in graffiti and surrounded by trees, one of the most surreal and photogenic spots in the entire country.
